Train Strikes Car In Wilmington

A car was struck by a train on Wednesday (September 2, 2015) in Wilmington.  The car’s driver died as a result of accident injuries from the collision.

According to the Will County Coroner’s Office, the accident happened at North 1st Street and Railroad Street.  The accident happened shortly before 10 p.m.

The driver was identified as Steven. D. Harden II, 34, of Wilmington.  He was pronounced dead after being taken to Presence Saint Joseph Medical Center in Joliet.

According to the release, a witness told authorities that Harden appeared to ignore the warning signals while attempting to beat the train through the crossing and never applied his brakes.
