An I-80 car crash occurred early Thursday (January 7, 2021) morning. The crash involved a car running into a stopped semi truck.
First responders were first called to the accident scene, which was on I-80 a mile east of Maple Street, at approximately 4:43 a.m.

The district said a sedan was found pinned under the rear of a semi-trailer. Firefighters began extrication and were able to free the driver from the vehicle, and transported them to a local hospital.
According to Illinois State Police, the truck tractor semi-trailer and a vehicle were stopped on the left shoulder after a minor crash. However, a second crash occurred when another vehicle ran off the road at a high rate of speed and struck the rear of the stopped semi-trailer on the left shoulder.
The driver of the car suffered serious injuries but those injuries were considered to be non-life-threatening in nature.
